Cardi B was born Belcalis Almanzar on October 11, 1992 in Bronx to a Trinidadian mother and a Dominican father. Raised alongside her sister Hannessey Carolina, Cardi learned how to be self-dependent in life since she was a teenager as her cashier mother and cabbie father barely could make ends meet. She had a bold, headstrong nature after her parents' split and due to her strained relationship with her stepfather.

Cardi attended Renaissance high School for Musical Theater & Technology. Once she finished high school, she enrolled at Borough of Manhattan Community College. As a teenager, she worked as a marketing expert at Amish Market and later pursued full-time career in the field. During this time, she turned to stripping, calling it an escape from poverty and domestic violence in her relationship with her then boyfriend.

As it was getting harder for her to manage time between school and work, Cardi dropped out of the college and took up an eight-hour shift at New York Dolls club. She made $300 per shift as a stripper. She soon became a popular face amongst druggies, dealers and bar-goers at almost every strip club in NYC. In 2013, Cardi paved her path as a social media star after some of her videos on Vine and Instagram went viral.

After being an erotic dancer for years, the Bronx native kicked off her musical career by assisting Jamaican singer Popcaan on single "Boom Boom (remix)" in 2015. In addition to her hip-hop career, Cardi quickly gained notoriety when joining the sixth season of VH1's reality show "Love & Hip Hop: New York". In the following year, Cardi released her first studio project, a mixtape called "Gangsta Bitch Music Vol. 1".

2017 is a big year for Cardi. In late February, she signed her first major record deal with Atlantic Records. During this time, she was believed to start dating a member of Migos, Offset. In May, she was among the nominees at 2017 BET Awards, being nominated in Best New Artist and Best Female Hip-Hop Artist categories.

A few months after the record deal, Atlantic Records released Cardi's commercial debut single on June 16. Titled "Bodak Yellow", the song was a massive commercial and chart success. In less than two months, the track reached the top 3 on Billboard Hot 100. It also landed on No. 1 on the Hot Rap Songs chart and No. 2 on the R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart. In August, "Bodak Yellow" was certified gold for over 500,000 in sales.

Although the rapper didn't release any solo songs since releasing her hit single, she was featured on a slew of collaborative tracks, including G-Eazy's "No Limit" and Migos' "MotorSport", which also featured Nicki Minaj. Cardi also had another thing to celebrate that year as she was engaged to her boyfriend Offset.

Following her engagement, Cardi premiered new song "Bartier Cardi", which was included in her debut studio album "Invasion of Privacy". Later on, she teamed up with Bruno Mars to release a new collaborative track "Finesse" in January 2018. The duo performed the song for the first time at the 2018 Grammy Music Awards.

It appeared 2018 was also a big year for Cardi. The female emcee was named the biggest winner at the 2018 iHeartRadio Music Awards which took place at The Forum on March 11. She brought home Best New Artist and Best New Hip-Hop Artist.

After premiering "Be Careful" and "Drop", Cardi finally released her long-awaited album "Invasion of Privacy" on April 6. The effort debuted atop Billboard 200 chart after racking up 255,000 equivalent unit albums. It marked her first No. 1 album on the chart.

Her personal life was once again put in the spotlight after news broke that she was expecting her first child with Offset. The rumors turned out to be true when she debuted her baby bump when she served as the musical guest in an episode of "Saturday Night Live". The sex of the baby is still unknown, but Cardi and her sister hinted that she is expecting a baby girl.

Being pregnant didn't stop Cardi from continuing her work. She made history by becoming the first ever co-host on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon". She is also currently gearing up for a North American tour with Bruno.
