In the Netherlands, a guy named Henk Heithuis was among a bunch of boys who were castrated as a punishment for reporting the priests who were abusing them to the police. The priests said the boys were gay, and had "seduced" the clergymen. Castration was considered a treatment for being gay. Henk was going to sue, but he died in a car crash under questionable circumstances. There was a huge government supported cover-up, but eventually it was uncovered. Nobody in the US or anywhere else cared much- we were focused on our Red Scare #2.
