Originally I was supposed to do it right after Dune came out but that movie was garbage for using in the set, not to mention Zendaya is in it for like what, 5-10 minutes and it's not even usable at all due to glowing eyes and nose piece.
Then came other projects and when I finally started making it like half a year ago I ran into issues of how to mask out the body from a footage that was not a perfectly lit green screen but an outdoor scene, with rolling clouds changing colors of uneven, multicolored grass and white/grey fence, considered manual roto but it would be too much, ended up doing multiple chroma key stages but that had it's issues too since it would often remove too much of the body, hair or clothing, thus producing holes. Ended up doing a bit of both with roto being mostly garbage masks to keep the bottom of the frame with no holes and some more garbage masks in the upper left and right corners (which may clip body from time to time) and chroma mostly removing background immediately around the hair and skin but there are still both some holes and unmasked regions + because of how chrome key had to be set up you can see the masking is very bad when you have small region that is surrounded by body parts and ends up making very round edges that don't follow actual edges, not to mention you can see the grass a bit.
The background is few different stock pictures photoshopped together into one landscape with like actually lit but static 3D model of the ornicopter + stock footage of one flying from the movie in the background and very poorly cut out worm (in the movie there is only one shot of the worm moving from the side and it's all far in the distance and dusty so I just added more dust since it literally looks like static image even though it is not) + some dust layers in the foreground and background as well as some lightwrap, bit of grain, lots of color grading/color matching, bit of a highlight transfer from original face to fake one and slight depth of field.
Next time I'll try to learn AE and use it's roto tool or maybe try some ML based approaches, didn't have time to learn them for this video, if not for lack of good green screen footage and bad masks this would have looked amazing but hopefully it still looks decent on a phone or if you are slightly blind :D
